Press Association

Press Association
The Press Association (PA) is a widely respected news provider based in London. All regional newspaper groups own PA shares, including the Mirror Group, Pearson-Longman and Associated Newspapers. Founded when the British Parliament acquired two telephone companies in 1868, by 1925 the PA had 100 London journalists and 1,500 provincial stringers. Today, the PA provides an extensive news service, a library with research services, feature interviews with leading politicians, live sports coverage and, since 1996, a regional advertising service on the Internet with News International. The PA’s dominance of its market has recently been challenged by the Leicester-based UK News Group, and this may affect the PA’s plans to become a public company on the London Stock Exchange in the year 2000.
